For the first time in program history, the Butte College men’s soccer team advanced to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Final Four, achieving the milestone with a win on November 30. The Roadrunners didn’t stop there. Once in the Final Four, they toppled the No. 1 seed in the Southern California bracket, Long Beach City College, in a 1-0 victory on Friday, December 6, to secure their spot in the CCCAA state championship.
The championship match on December 8 pitted the Roadrunners (18-4-4) against the Cuyamaca Coyotes (18-4-2). Both teams were double-digit seeds during the regional playoffs but emerged as the No. 2 seeds for the state championship weekend in their respective regions. Despite their determined effort, the Roadrunners fell 2-0 to the Coyotes, who claimed the state title.
While the loss in the championship game was a bittersweet conclusion, this season will be remembered as a breakthrough season for the Roadrunners.
